Panel Replacements
We replace panels that shouldn't be in your house anymore. Federal Pacific, Zinsco, Challenger, old fuse boxes, split-bus panels. We pull the old panel, install a modern one with current code protections, handle the Xcel coordination, and get it inspected.
Each of these panels has a different history and different problems. We wrote guides on the ones we see most often:
- Federal Pacific (FPE) Stab-Lok →
- Zinsco / GTE-Sylvania →
- Challenger (guide coming soon)
Not sure what you have? Text us a photo of your panel door. We'll tell you what it is and whether it needs to go.
(303) 775-3221Service Changes, Upgrades & Relocations
Your service entrance is everything between the power line and your panel: the meter, the mast, the weatherhead, the feeders. When any of that is undersized or worn out, the whole system is limited.
Common reasons for a service change: your panel is at 100 amps or less, every breaker slot is full, or you need capacity for solar, an EV charger, a hot tub, or a remodel. We also relocate panels when a basement finish, addition, or code requirement means your panel needs to move.
Subpanel Installation
When your main panel is full but you need circuits in a garage, workshop, or addition, a subpanel gives you room to grow without replacing your entire service.
Manual Transfer Switches
If you have a portable generator but no safe way to connect it to your house, a manual transfer switch gives you a code-compliant hookup. No backfeeding, no extension cords through windows.

(303) 775-3221What to Expect
Every job follows the same process. No surprises.
Free Inspection
We come look at your panel, check the grounding, take photos, and write up a detailed estimate. No charge.
Approval & Deposit
You approve the estimate and put down 50%. That locks in your date and lets us start permits and Xcel coordination.
Permit & Xcel
We pull the electrical permit and submit the disconnect/reconnect application through Xcel. Their review takes 5 to 10 business days.
Work Day
Power is off for 8 to 10 hours. Old panel comes out. New panel, meter, grounding, and every circuit goes in to current code.
Inspection
A local electrical inspector reviews all the work. Most jobs pass on the first visit.
Power On & Payment
Xcel installs the meter and restores power. Final 50% is due after everything passes and lights are back on.
What Customers Say
"I didn't feel like I was 'just another job.' Their prices are reasonable, better than three other electricians I spoke to."Dcg D.
"My husband and I have kissed plenty of frogs, so we recognize a keeper when we find one. Jesse couldn't be a better professional."Kb W.
"Jesse always gave an explanation to the work he was doing so I have a better understanding of my home and not just doing the job and giving me the bill."Patrick M.
They Could Have Hired Any Electrician in California. They Flew Jesse Out.
"I only had 30 days to remodel my new condo. The only Electrical Contractor I knew who could get this difficult project done was Jesse. It was on a Tuesday afternoon that I made the call. I said I have an unrealistic request. One, I need you here tomorrow, meaning Wednesday. Two, I need to know in the next 5 minutes."
"Jesse called back in 5 minutes and said he was willing to drop everything and fly out to help me. He worked 40 hours in three days rewiring the whole kitchen, installed a new panel and breakers, and relocated all of the existing circuits. One day he started at 6:00am and didn't quit till 2:30am the next day."
"I have never known anyone that works that hard and does such professional work."

Are you licensed and insured?
Yes. Dunlap Electric Company holds a Colorado Electrical Contractor License (#8223) and Jesse Dunlap is a Colorado Licensed Master Electrician. We carry full liability insurance and workers' comp. We're happy to provide documentation if your insurance company or HOA requires it.
What is your warranty?
One year on all electrical parts, starting from the date of final inspection. Lifetime on workmanship. If any issue ever arises due to the way our work was installed, we will return and correct it at no cost to you. No expiration.
Do you do the work yourself or send a crew?
Jesse does the work himself. When you call Dunlap Electric, Jesse answers. No apprentice, no subcontractor.
Do you handle permits and inspections?
Yes. We pull the electrical permit, coordinate with Xcel Energy for the disconnect and reconnect, and schedule the inspection. You don't need to manage any of that.
What does a service change include?
A service change replaces your meter, mast, weatherhead, and electrical panel. It brings the full service entrance up to what your home needs. Common reasons: your panel is at 100 amps or less, every breaker slot is full, or you need more capacity for solar, an EV charger, a hot tub, or a remodel. If your panel needs to move for a basement finish, addition, or code compliance, we handle relocations as part of the service change.
What types of panels do you replace?
Federal Pacific (FPE), Zinsco, Challenger, fuse boxes, split-bus panels, and other outdated or underperforming panels. We have detailed guides on Federal Pacific and Zinsco panels if you want to learn more about yours.
What areas do you serve?
We're based in Lakewood and serve a 30-minute radius: Lakewood, Littleton, Ken Caryl, Highlands Ranch, Centennial, Morrison, Evergreen, Genesee, Golden, and Southwest Denver. For larger projects ($5K+), we'll drive further.
Is there a minimum project size?
Yes, $2,000. Our focus is panel replacements, service changes and relocations, subpanels, and transfer switches. These are bigger jobs that take most of a day, and each one gets our full attention.
