An old or flagged panel
An inspection, insurance letter, or home sale flagged your panel, or it is a known-problem brand. We replace it with a new one, done to code and inspected. What a panel replacement involves →

Other common jobs
Adding a Level 2 electric vehicle (EV) charger
Dedicated 240V circuit, sized to your home and to how you actually drive, hardwired by default. If the existing service can't carry the load it becomes a service change; most installs don't need one.
What an EV charger install involves →Out of space, or powering a garage or addition
The main panel is full but you need circuits in a garage, shop, basement, or accessory dwelling unit. A subpanel adds room without replacing the whole service.
What a subpanel install involves →Backup power for an outage
You have a portable generator but no safe, code-compliant way to connect it. A manual transfer switch runs the essentials without backfeeding the line.
What a transfer switch involves →Not sure which one fits, or seeing something else like breakers that trip, lights that dim, or a buzzing or burning smell? Call or text and describe it, and we can usually tell what you are dealing with from a clear photo.

Meet Jesse
Founded by Jesse Dunlap, Colorado Licensed Master Electrician
Jesse founded Dunlap Electric in 2011, bringing commercial-grade experience from airports, hospitals, and high-rises to residential panel replacements, service upgrades, subpanels, transfer switches, and Level 2 EV chargers across the Denver metro. In the electrical trade since 1998.

This panel was in a basement that flooded during the 2013 Front Range floods. Corroded bus bars, degraded connections, a serious fire and shock hazard. We replaced it with a new Square D panel, every circuit rewired to current code.
They Flew Jesse to California for a 3-Day Kitchen Rewire
"I only had 30 days to remodel my new condo. The only Electrical Contractor I knew who could get this difficult project done was Jesse. It was on a Tuesday afternoon that I made the call. I said I have an unrealistic request. One, I need you here tomorrow, meaning Wednesday. Two, I need to know in the next 5 minutes."
"Jesse called back in 5 minutes and said he was willing to drop everything and fly out to help me. He worked 40 hours in three days rewiring the whole kitchen, installed a new panel and breakers, and relocated all of the existing circuits. One day he started at 6:00am and didn't quit till 2:30am the next day."
"I have never known anyone that works that hard and does such professional work."
Steve Holton, La Jolla, CA
What to Expect
Every job follows the same process. No surprises.
Assessment
We come look at your panel, check the grounding, take photos, and write up a detailed quote. No charge.
Approval & Deposit
You approve the quote and put down 50%. That locks in your date and lets us start permits and Xcel coordination.
Permit & Xcel
We pull the electrical permit and submit the disconnect/reconnect application through Xcel. Their review usually takes 5 to 10 business days, though timelines are outside our control.
Work Day
Plan for a full day without power. The old panel comes out. New panel, meter, grounding, and every circuit goes in to current code.
Inspection
A local electrical inspector reviews all the work. Most jobs pass on the first visit.
Power On & Payment
Xcel installs the meter and restores power. Final 50% is due after everything passes and lights are back on.

Are you licensed and insured?
Yes. Dunlap Electric Company holds a Colorado Electrical Contractor License (#8223) and Jesse Dunlap is a Colorado Licensed Master Electrician. We carry full liability insurance. We're happy to provide documentation if your insurance company or HOA requires it.
What is your warranty?
One year on all electrical parts from the date of final inspection. Workmanship warranty on all installation work. See full warranty terms.
Who does the work?
A master electrician from Dunlap Electric. Every panel replacement, service change, subpanel, transfer switch, and Level 2 EV charger install is evaluated, quoted, and overseen to the master-electrician standard through final inspection.
Do you handle permits and inspections?
Yes. We pull the electrical permit, coordinate with Xcel Energy for the disconnect and reconnect, and schedule the inspection. You don't need to manage any of that.
What does a service change include?
A service change replaces your meter, mast, weatherhead, and electrical panel. It brings the full service entrance up to what your home needs. Common reasons: your panel is at 100 amps or less, every breaker slot is full, or you need more capacity for solar, an EV charger, a hot tub, or a remodel. If the panel needs to move for a remodel, addition, or code compliance, we handle relocations as part of the service change.
What types of panels do you replace?
Federal Pacific (FPE), Zinsco, Challenger, fuse boxes, split-bus panels, and other outdated or underperforming panels. We have detailed guides on Federal Pacific, Zinsco, Challenger, fuse boxes, Pushmatic, and split-bus panels if you want to learn more about yours.
What areas do you serve?
We serve a 30-minute radius from our Lakewood home base, including Lakewood, Littleton, Ken Caryl, Highlands Ranch, Centennial, Morrison, Evergreen, Genesee, Golden, Arvada, Wheat Ridge, Englewood, Greenwood Village, Conifer, and Southwest Denver.
What Customers Say
"I didn't feel like I was 'just another job.' Their prices are reasonable, better than three other electricians I spoke to."
"My husband and I have kissed plenty of frogs, so we recognize a keeper when we find one. Jesse couldn't be a better professional."
"Jesse always gave an explanation to the work he was doing so I have a better understanding of my home and not just doing the job and giving me the bill."
